Can it be installed directly on a plaster ceiling?

Yes, you can glue directly to plaster with Arku mounting adhesive, quickly, easily and without special tools.

What does PET stand for?

PET stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate – a type of plastic used for, for example, water bottles and food packaging.
It is a light, strong and 100% recyclable material that can be transformed into new products without losing its properties.
At Arku, it is cleaned, melted and pressed into acoustic panels with high density and low weight, ideal for sound absorption and circular production.

Can it be mounted on formwork?

Yes, the panels can be glued directly to the formwork. Approx. max (300 mm). For more sound absorption, we recommend mineral wool behind/between the formwork, if space allows.

Does the ceiling require acclimatization before installation?

No. Arku requires no acclimatization and can be installed immediately.

How long does it take to install?

Arku is 30–40% faster to install than traditional acoustic ceilings thanks to our adhesive-based system.

Can it be combined with spotlights and lamps?

We do not offer cutouts from the factory, but you can customize the plates yourself with a hobby knife for spots, sensors or wires. Contact us for installation instructions.

What does “recycled plastic” mean?

This means that the material is not new, but made from existing plastic waste that would otherwise have ended up in nature or in landfills.
By using recycled PET, we reduce both CO₂ emissions, energy consumption and the amount of new plastic that must be produced from oil.
In short: we give waste a new life and create beautiful, functional surfaces out of it.

Can I install the ceiling myself?

Yes. Installation is simple, apply the adhesive, press the panels into place and you're done. Contact us for installation instructions.

Can the ceiling/panels be painted?

Yes, it is possible to paint the Arku ceiling, but only with a diffusion-open paint (e.g. silicate or acrylate-based).
Please note that paint reduces the acoustic effect slightly because the color partially closes the pores of the surface, which otherwise absorb sound.

Can it be mounted on walls?

Yes, all Arku panels also work perfectly as wall absorbers. Contact us for case pictures.

How thick are the plates?

All Arku panels are 12 mm thick , providing a light, elegant and effective acoustic solution.

Why is recycled plastic more sustainable than virgin plastic?

The benefits of using recycled plastic (instead of exclusively new plastic):

  1. Reduction of raw material consumption and CO₂ emissions
Producing new plastic often requires oil- or gas-based raw materials and energy. Recycling, all else being equal, may require less energy and fewer resources, depending on the process and distance.
  2. Waste reduction
By using plastic waste as a raw material, you reduce the amount of plastic that otherwise ends up as waste in landfills, in nature or incineration.
  3. Circular economy
Recycled plastic contributes to the idea of a circular economy, materials circulate multiple times instead of being used once and thrown away.
  4. Social and environmental impact in countries of origin
Especially in countries without strong waste systems, collecting and recycling plastic can create jobs, reduce pollution and reduce waste in nature. This is precisely part of your argument for collecting PET in Asia.

But these benefits depend heavily on recycling being done efficiently, with good quality, short transport distances and strict environmental standards.

What colors are they available in?

Only light beige/white, but a dark/black version will come later.

Do you have an EPD/LCA?

Yes, we have - please contact us at kontakt@arku.dk

How long is the delivery time?

Usually 5–10 days for standard products, 3–4 weeks for custom solutions.

Should I use glue or screws?

We recommend Arku assembly glue , which ensures quick, clean and strong installation with a caulking gun.

What fire rating do your panels have?

The boards are approved in material class B-s1,d0 according to the European classification system for building materials under the standard EN 13501-01.
This means that the plates are:
• Limited flammable
• Limited flame spread
• Limited heat emission
• Limited smoke generation and does not emit burning droplets or particles
In practice, this means that Arku panels can be used in all types of construction when they are used in accordance with the building regulations.
However, the overall ceiling structure must always be taken into account when fireproofing the building - here the Arku panels cannot stand alone.

Where does your plastic come from?

Our PET primarily comes from Asia, because that is where the challenge with plastic waste is greatest.
In many Asian countries, there is still no well-functioning recycling system, which means that large amounts of plastic would otherwise end up in nature or the ocean.

By collecting and recycling plastic from here, we are actively taking part in solving a global problem where the need is greatest.
We collaborate with partners who collect, sort and certify the plastic under controlled conditions so that we can document both quality and sustainability.

In short:

  • We remove plastic where it causes the most harm.
  • We extend the life of the material through recycling.
  • And we transform waste into functional aesthetics.
Where are the products shipped from?

All Arku products are shipped directly from our warehouse and production in Herning, Denmark.

Why recycle plastic - isn't plastic bad?

Plastic itself is not the problem, it's the way we use and throw it away.

Today, only about 9% of all plastic globally is recycled, with the rest ending up as waste, in nature or in landfills (sources: The Guardian , Wikipedia ).
Therefore, far more new plastic is produced than we manage to recycle, in fact over ten times as much.

By recycling existing plastic instead of producing new:

  • We reduce the need for oil and energy in production.
  • We significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
  • We remove plastic waste, especially in regions without functioning recycling systems.

At Arku, we use collected PET plastic from Asia, where the problem is greatest. This means that plastic that would otherwise have ended up in the ocean is given a new life as a functional and aesthetic acoustic solution.

In short:

We can't avoid plastic, but we can use it much smarter.
By recycling existing plastic, we create value from something that would otherwise have gone to waste.

How it works

Easy 3-step assembly

001

Measure and fit panel

Measure and cut the panel to fit the ceiling with a craft knife. No special tools are required.

002

The glue is applied to the sheet

Apply an even layer of Arku panel glue to the back. The glue ensures a strong and durable installation without screws.

003

Install acoustic panel

Press the panel up against the ceiling and adjust it into place. The result is a beautiful, seamless acoustic ceiling that is ready for use immediately.
